Our reviewer, "at the ripe old age of 20," sighs that rock shows are "not worth going to anymore" since they're ruined by all the high, noisy teenagers - he would rather attend concerts with "older, sophisticated" adults who are "well behaved and civil."
Plenty of examples of ghastly audience behavior here - the complaint about everyone standing up reminds me of the pleas you often hear on 1970 audience tapes to "sit down! sit down!" And of course the stoned, screaming, clapping contingent makes an appearance, as they always do. (Plenty of audience tapes come to mind.)
He says "the Dead are special to me," but I doubt he'd seen them before. (They hadn't played in Baltimore since '69.) He seemed to expect a more restrained audience than you'd find at any Dead show....on the east coast, anyway.

Despite the reviewer's dismay, the Dead played one of their best shows of the tour to this screaming, hopped-up audience, including one of the longest-ever Other Ones. Though unfortunately he couldn't focus on the music, he at least mentions that the sound quality was "surprisingly good." (This can be heard on our audience tape, as well as all the screaming & clapping.)

This also provides a contrast to the other review I posted of this show, which also says next to nothing about the music but mentions "a line of police keeping the crowd in their seats." You'd think it was a different show... Which indicates how little we can often tell about shows from the newspaper reviews!
